Company Centenary Medal, 1912 An impressive, 3.5cm diameter, bronze medal on its original ribbon with pin. The Gas Light and Coke Company (also known as the Westminster Gas Light and Coke Company), was incorporated by Royal Charter on the 30th April 1812. It was the first company set up to supply London with (coal) gas, and operated the first gas works in the United Kingdom - which was also the world's first public gas works. It is identified as the original company from which today's British Gas plc is descended. |
